For our initial idea we wanted to have a young male being stalked by a strange figure on the dark web. We decided that we would have our protagonist as a male as it subverts the stereotype that most people we see being stalked online are female. We also thought that we should include a current affair in our film trailer and we came up with the idea that it could be an extremist Trump supporter.
We came up with the idea from a range of films we had watched, the Purge: Election Year was an inspiration for the extreme supporters and how it can cause people to become angry and behave strangely. There are quite a few films that include a person being stalked on line so we wanted to make our approach more original and unique. A few examples of films that we got inspiration from, for our trailer are Ratter, Cyber Bullying, Friend Request and many more. For this idea we also wanted to use new technology to keep it up to date with the social media that we now use. We decided that Snapchat would be the most up to date social media that we could use. This could also include the use of Snapmaps, which could be good to show how they always know where the protagonist is and what they are doing. It could also be a warning for teenagers that they need to be careful what they share online. We thought that the use of Snapchat would also make it more original and unique because when people are stalked online it is normally through the likes of Facebook or the web. We decided that using these would be too mainstream and not very up to date with what people are currently using, so Snapchat would be the most relatable to our generation.
